Lettering for NYC's Modified boxcars - early Gothic scheme

Part Number: NYC MOD-2

Between June and September 1944, the NYC built 2,000 Modified 1937 AAR design box cars in their Dispatch Car Shops in Buffalo, NY., in two Lots. Lot 734-B were numbered 159000-159999, and Lot 745-B were numbered 161000-161999.

The car depicted above is lettered with the new Gothic style as repainted in 1955 with the black background (effective August 1955) 48” medallion. Car is painted NYC red-brown (1 part Floquil #88 and 3 parts Floquil #175), underbody and truck side frames coated with black car cement. Decal sheet designed and created at Protocraft Decals.

Note: the star in the decal sheet denotes that the car is in prime condition and all attempts should be made to keep the car in the NYC home system and to avoid interchange service.

Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet
