Lettering for Modified 1937 AAR boxcars - 1956 scheme

Part Number: SSW MOD-2

Price: $8.50

In March of 1941, the SSW took delivery of 200 Modied 1937 AAR design box cars. These cars were built in SSW’s shops and assigned series numbers 33500- 33699. In December 1943, an additional 150 cars were built in SSW shops as Series 33700-33849.

Paint & Lettering: Car bodies and truck sideframes were painted SP red-brown: TCP 923. Underbody painted with black car cement. Wheels were unpainted and allowed to rust and gather a coating of axle grease.

Around 1956, the large block lettering COTTON BELT began to appear, replacing the railroad name. Note that the placing of the reporting marks S.S.W. dier between the two cars - appearantly at the whim of the individual paint shops. The remainding lettering keeps the same placement. Lettering designed and created at Protocraft Decals

Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet
