Lettering for NC&StL 36’ single-sheathed boxcars - 1945+ scheme

The Nashville and Chattanooga had 1,500 36’ single-sheathed boxcars, Class XM27/28, built and delivered as follows:

 

Series 15100-16099, 1,000 cars, built in N.C. & St. L shops, delivered in 1916, Class XM-27 - inside height of 8’-1”

Series 16100-16599, 500 cars, American Car & Foundry, delivered in 1923, Class XM-28 - inside height of 8’-6”

 

Paint & Lettering: Car painted freight car red with all white stencil paste lettering. Both 15337 and 16268 were repainted and upgraded

with AB brakes at NC&StL’s Nashville shops in 1945.
