lettering for ERIE’s 50/60 ton Twin alternate Standard Offset hopper

Beginning in May of 1934, the ERIE received it’s first group of all-steel offset-side hoppers. This class of hopper was continually added to ERIE‘s eet until 1947, they totaled 4,900. They were built and delivered as follows:

Series 27000-27249, 250 cars, Pullman-Standard Car Co. - Lot 5651 - delivered January 1941

Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted all black; lettering was all white stencil paste. Between 1944 and 1946, the ERIE experimented with a
gold diamond, but after 1946, returned to the all white diamond, and in 1947 went to a 6’ tall diamond for all freight cars.
