post-1947 scheme with El Capitan slogan

Part Number: ATSF Fe-26-2a

Price: $8.50

Pullman-Standard built 500 cars for the Santa Fe in mid-1945 under Lot , numbered as Series 64200-64699. The cars came with early postwar style
Youngstown corrugated doors and ASF A-3 trucks. The Fe-26 class cars were purchased with the intention of tting Evans double deck auto racks, and most
cars in the class got racks shortly after they were delivered; all were rack equipped by 1948. Model: Protocraft PC-3315

By the late '50s, American automobiles had expanded in size to the point where they would not t on auto racks in a 40' long car, and the racks were gradually
removed from the Fe-26 class as cars were converted for auto parts service and renumbered. I'm sending several photos which show auto parts cars in the
5899-6663 series as repainted with the post-1947 "Ship and Travel Santa Fe All the Way" slogan on the right side and various post-1947 style slogans on the left
side. Unfortunately, there is no systematic record of which slogans went with which car numbers. Richard Hendrickson

Paint & Lettering: Cars, underbodies and truck sideframes were painted ATSF Mineral Brown: TCP-921 a dark freight car brown up until late 1945, then a
medium red/brown: TCP-923 beginning in 1949. Both shades need to be modied with TP-179 gray to replicate normal oxidation. Black anti-slip compound
applied to the steel roofs. (By 1947, the anti-slip compound applied to the roofs was also mineral brown)

Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet
