Beginning in 1938 and April 1942, the additional cars received white lettering and the aluminum medallion - for this scheme, see decal sheet Southern-3b

Overall, the Southern and its subsidairies, received 6,956 cars of this design between October 1937 and September 1939, plus in January 1941, an additional
500 cars with the newer round (W) corner design, as Series 14396-15895, from Pullman-Standard under Lot 5648. All cars eventually were repainted, and any
after April 1942, would have received the white medallion, as the use of aluminum paint was discouraged by the War Department. This would include all the
series of 10000-15895.

Note: the dierence between the white and aluminum medallions are the distinctive letter spacing inside the circles.

The cars came with square corner 4/5 Dreadnaught ends, and were equipped with wood running boards, the majority with Miner hand brake assemblies,
AB brake system, 7/7 Wine ladders, Murphy raised panel roofs and 6’ Youngstown doors. (Note: the 60” white monogram was applied on all repainted cars.)
