The SP employed 20 some odd 120 ton cranes to provide emergency service for train wrecks and other lifting jobs, and stationed them at major shops or sidings near potential mishap areas. The first set of 10 cranes were built by Industrial-Works of Bay City, Michigan. Photos have provided numbers 7000, 7002, 7005 and 7011. Another set of almost identical cranes were built by Bucyrus-Erie: photos show numbers 7014, 7015, 7020 and 7021. Note: Bycyrus-Erie also built SP’s 200 ton cranes: photos show 7110 and 7114.
