Lettering for MONON 1937/1944 AAR design boxcars as relettered in 1952-58 Banner scheme

Part Number: CIL-4

Price: $8.50

In October, 1941, the MONON received 150 1937 AAR 10’-0” IH box cars from Pullman-Standard, Lot 5667B, and assigned road numbers 9000-9149. In April, 1942, an additional 300 cars of the same design were delivered from Pullman-Standard’s Michigan City plant, Lot 5707, and assigned road numbers9150-9449. Between May 1952 and January 1957, these cars were repainted with The Hoosier Line banner across the top of the car side.

In May 1947, the MONON received 500, 1944 AAR 10’-6” IH box cars from Pullman-Standard, Lot 5860. The cars with road numbers 1-250, came with 7-panel Superior doors and cars with road numbers 251-500, came with Youngstown 6-6-5 panel doors. In February 1958 MON 1 was repainted with the banner scheme. Lettering set designed at Protocraft Decals with artwork by Norm Buckhart.

According to Mont Switzer, the ‘white’ banner stripe was an off white, almost gray color. One method suggested is to first paint the stripe all black, then repaint it with white on top, resulting in a gray color. Extra black banner lettering is included for those that wish to paint the banner rather than apply it as a decal.

Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet
