The Wabash built 875 Modified 1937 AAR design box cars in their own shops. The first lot of 520 cars were delivered August 1942 and were assigned road numbers 86000-86519. The second lot of 355 cars were delivered August of 1944 and were assigned road numbers 86520-86874. Car was painted Wabash box car red: 1 part Floquil Southern Freight Car Brown #110186 and 1 part Oxide Red, Floquil #110186. Underbody and truck side frames painted with black car cement. Wheels were unpainted and allowed to rust and gather a coating of axle grease.
