Previous Return to list of all 40’ and 50’ autocars Next Lettering for 40' autocars - 1950's scheme
The Pere Marquette received 100 40’ double-door auto cars from Ralston Car Co in August of 1941. These cars were assigned Series 93400- 93499. In late 1950’s the PM was absorbed into the C & O and these cars were repainted and lettered for C&O and renumbered by adding a 2 before the PM numbers. (See decal sheet PM-7 for lettering under PM ownership) No longer in auto service the cars were assiged to general freight or auto parts and so the word AUTOMOBILE is omited from the lettering. There are no photos of this C&O series and the car above is an earlier version, however the lettering placement is correct for the series that came from the PM.
