![]() In April 1957, the NYC had it’s Dispatch Shops build 1,900 50’ boxcars for it’s Early Bird Fast Freight Service. These were built under Lot 862-B and were assigned Series 45000-46899. An additional 90 cars built under the same Lot and were assigned Series numbers 52900-52990;
these cars were equipped with type G auto racks. These were the only cars to display the short lived yellow and blue “Early Bird” logo (The one
exception is 100 rebuilt plug-door boxcars displaying the white “Early Bird” logo, under Lot 396 in 1958. (734-B)
