lettering for Union Pacific’s B-50-32/33 Gothic 1947-1956 Armour Yellow scheme

Between April, 1941 and June, 1943, the UP built 2,749 Modified 1937 AAR design 10’-6” HI boxcars in their Omaha shops.

 

Series 191000-192999, 2,000 cars, UP’s Omaha Shops, Class B-50-32 - delivered August 1941

Series 193000-193748, 749 cars, UP’s Omaha Shops, Class B-50-33 - delivered April 1942

 

Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted UP red-oxide including truck side frames: TCP-180. Underbody was either red-oxide or coated with black car cement. Beginning in July 1947 and through November 1956, all freight cars were lettered in Gothic style with Armour Yellow stencil paste. Slogans were Armour Yellow

with “Road of the Streamliners” on the right and “Serves all the West” on the left. Wheels were unpainted and allowed to rust and gather a coating of axle grease

and road grime. Note: The road name UNION PACIFIC stretched slightly over 10’ (191000 above) when built at Omaha; during repaints at various UP paint shops,

the road name was usually shorter as seen on 193289 below. Always refer to photographs to determine which to use from this sheet for your model.
