Between June 1936 and March 1940, the ERIE received 1,200 boxcars of the new 1937 AAR 10’-0” IH design. Dates and series as follows:

 

Series 78000-78499, 500 cars - American Car & Foundry, Lot 1505, Viking roof. Delivered June, 1936

Series 78500-78999, 500 cars - American Car & Foundry, Lot 1948, Viking roof. Delivered January, 1940

Series 79000-79199, 200 cars - Pullman-Standard, Lot 5605, Viking roof. Delivered Feb-March, 1940

 

Paint & Lettering: Car sides painted freight car brown: TCP #215. Ends, roof, doors, truck sideframes and underframe coated with black car

cement. The 72” medallion introduced in 1947, with data layout in horizontal form .
