Between March 1940 and May 1941, the NP received 3,100 1937 AAR 10’-0” IH design boxcars as follows:

Series 15000-15499, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5621, Youngstown doors - delivered March 1940
Series 15500-15999, 500 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 1993, Youngstown doors - delivered March 1940
Series 16000-16999, 1000 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 2194, Youngstown doors - delivered April 1941
Series 17000-17499, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5662, Youngstown doors - delivered May 1941
Series 17500-17899, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5662, 7-Panel Superior doors - delivered June 1941
Series 17900-17999, 100 cars, N.P. Laual Shops, using ACF Lot 2208 sides, Youngstown doors - delivered May 1941

When delivered cars the cars received the small 3’ monad medallion on the right and arched NORTHERN PACIFIC over the reporting marks. Beginning in October 1947, the “Main Street of the Northwest” slogan was added below the 3’ medallion. In 1951, new boxcars and repainted boxcars received the new 60‘ monad medallion as seen on NP 16492 on reverse side. This scheme all came with the “Main Street of the Northwest” slogan. Lettering designed by Ted Culotta with artwork created by Protocraft Decals.
