Lettering for 1932 ARA design 9'-4" IH boxcars

Part Number: D&H-2

Price: $8.50

The D&H built 100 1932 ARA design boxcars at their own shops and delivered as follows:

Series 17626-17635, 10 cars, D&H Oneonta, N.Y. shops, delivered May 1937
Series 17636-17710, 75 cars, D&H Green Island shops, delivered September 1937
Series 17711-17725, 15 cars, D&H Green Island shops, delivered December 1937

Over half of these cars remained in revenue service into 1965.

Paint & Lettering: The cars were delivered as depicted on 17665 above. Car sides, ends and roof were painted boxcar red: TCP-923; underframe and trucks painted with black car cement. Wheels left unpainted and allowed to gather dust, rust and road grime. Lettering white stencil paste. (note: some photos show the underframe painted boxcar red with the brake equipment coated with black car cement - but this was not the norm)
During late 1939, the new double circle medallion was implemented with “A Century of Anthraite Service” in the band. Soon the road name below the reporting marks was dropped as well as “The D & H” from the upper left hand corner.

Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet
